US and European authorities announced Friday that they have closed 400 different websites and arrested 16 people during an operation to monitor the websites that offer services or sell illegal drugs.

US authorities have called this operation as among the most important yet undertaken worldwide to combat cyber crime, and to close illegal web sites that operate with network called Tor, which allows people to communicate with anonymous IP address.

Tor network, which is created by the American security experts to protect the anonymity of national security communications, is used by activists, criminals, hackers, etc. to avoid supervision. These websites are dealing with illegal sale of narcotics, weapons, also offered abused children view and page to extremist groups.

Among these web pages is part of an illegal internet site, dealing with sale of narcotic substances, called 'Silk Road 2.0'. Blake Benthall, site manager 2.0 Silk Road, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking, money laundering, theft of computers and other crimes.
